Edinburgh 2010

Glasgow Churches Together is finalising plans for an event in June 2010 to mark the centenary of the World Missionary Conference, held in Edinburgh in 1910, which is credited with leading to the foundation of the modern ecumenical movement.

Meantime, you can play your own part in Edinburgh 2010, the international, multi-denominational project set up to commemorate the 1910 World Missionary Conference, and to provide new perspectives on mission today.

Scottish Christians are encouraged to …

• Take part in the global discussion about mission
Edinburgh 2010 is not just a single conference, but a process through which we deepen and strengthen our understanding of mission. The Edinburgh 2010 Youth group is currently hosting a Facebook online consultation about mission and theological education. Visit the 2010 website or Facebook group ‘Edinburgh 2010’ to find out more.

• Enter the youth multimedia and youth writing contests
Young Christians of all denominations (ages 18-30) are invited to participate. Projects and papers are due on 28 February 2010. The winners receive a sponsored invitation to the Edinburgh conference. More information about the multimedia and writing contests is available online.

• Set up an event in the Edinburgh 2010 spirit
June 2010 offers a unique way for Christians all over the world to celebrate God’s call to mission. Members of your organisation could organise a local celebration of mission. A brochure, 2010.global, is available for download in English, Spanish and French, with more languages are to follow.

At the heart of the Edinburgh 2010 project is a decentralised Study Process, which looks at mission related topics from many different angles. From 2 to 6 June 2010 a Centenary Conference will take place in and around the historic sites of the 1910 Conference.

Edinburgh 2010 is governed by a General Council advised by a Scottish organising team.
