Why does greater income equality matter … and how do we achieve it?

The theme will be explored at a conference jointly organised by Action of Churches Together in Scotland and Scottish trade unions on 6th November 2009 at the Easter Road Conference Centre in Edinburgh.

Speakers include:

  • Professor Richard Wilkinson, Co-author of “The Spirit Level; why more equal societies almost always do better”
  • Ann McKechin MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Scotland
  • Scottish Government speaker
  • Grahame Smith, General Secretary, STUC
  • Alison Elliot, Convener of Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations and former Moderator of the Church of Scotland’s General Assembly

Workshops include:

  • A Living Wage for Scotland – Deborah Littman, UNISON
  • Inequality and Power – Niall Cooper, Church Action on Poverty
  • Alternative models of finance and organisation – Richard McCready, Policy and Information Officer, Co-operation and Mutuality Scotland Climate change and poverty – Judith Robertson, Director, Oxfam Scotland
