GCT members feature in Glasgow Bible DVD
GCT committee members Gerry Fitzpatrick and Laurence Whitley are among dozens of personalities appearing in a DVD version of Jamie Stuart’s Glasgow Bible, launched on October 7.
Mgr Fitzpatrick, parish priest at St Leo the Great in Dumbreck and convenor of GCT’s music and worship committee, and Rev Dr Whitley, minister of Glasgow Cathedral, feature in a sequence of scenes illustrating the boyhood of Jesus.
The Glasgow Bible, containing Bible stories written in the Glasgow vernacular, was first published as a book and video in 1992 and appeared in CD form in 2008.
The DVD is being created by Collie Productions, headed by Glen Collie, who serves as session clerk at Glasgow Cathedral. “It’s not a commercial venture, but a mission aimed at getting the Bible stories into places where they might not otherwise be,” he said.
It was launched at High Carntyne Church of Scotland, home church of the production’s musical director, Alastair McDonald, with further events at Wesley Owen Bookshop and the City Chambers.
• Jamie Stuart tells the story of the Good Samaritan and introduces extracts from the original 1992 video.
The DVD has been supported by the Scottish Bible Society and the Church of Scotland. A preview DVD of extracts, the Glasgow Gospel, was distributed free with The Herald in August 2009.
