More than 300 people packed the banqueting hall of Glasgow’s City Chambers on June 14 for the annual Welcoming City event, a multicultural celebration in song, dance and prayer.

Bailie Catherine McMaster gave a civic welcome before prayer from Methodist minister Rev Derek Bibb, and a rendition of God to Enfold You by the St Mungo Singers introduced a reading from Acts by Archbishop Mario Conti.

There was music from the Southside Fiddlers and a hymn sung in Urdu leading to intercessions in English by Rev Tom Nelson, Moderator of the Church of Scotland’s Glasgow Presbytery; in Scots Gaelic by Kenna Kennedy; in Urdu by Church of Scotland minister Rev Mahboob Masih; and in Irish by Sean Gallagher, president chairman of Conradh na Gaeilge.

The Gaelic League Singers performed Colmcille before communal singing of the Lord’s Prayer and music from the Govan Citadel Salvation Army Band.
