The session clerk of Milngavie United Free Church of Scotland congregation has been named as the denomination’s next moderator.
Andrew Scott will take up the role of heading up the general assembly in Perth next June.
Mr Scott was born in Whitehaven and his parents moved back to Glasgow when he was very young. He was brought up in Netherlee and attended Netherlee Parish Church.
He is a graduate of Caius College, Cambridge where he studied Land Economy. He later qualified as a Chartered Surveyor and was Assistant Director of Estates with Strathclyde Regional Council until its demise in 1996. Thereafter he moved into education and taught on the HND Planning and Valuation courses at The College of Building and Printing (now City of Glasgow College) and taught on the Property Management and Valuation degree courses at Glasgow Caledonian University.
He has been session clerk of Milngavie United Free Church since 1985.
He has served the Church as Moderator of the Presbytery of the West. Nationally he has served as Convener of the Church and Society Committee. He is currently on the editorial group that publishes the denominational magazine, and Vice-Convener of the Ministry Committee.
