At this time of year it’s natural for us to look back in nostalgia and look forward – ideally in hope and expectation – but sometimes with a little anxiety and dread. That’s natural. We are only human after all.
But the message of Christmas is that there is always hope … Emmanuel means “God is with us” and there can be no greater ground for hope than that!
The year ahead has been designated a “Year of mercy”. Mercy is something we all need to experience in our lives when we fall and sin. But it’s also something we can express to others. It would be a great New year’s resolution if we could endeavour to show mercy and understanding of those around us every day of the year ahead …
And so as the old year draws to a close and the new one begins, may God bless you and your families and loved ones … Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen
Happy New Year!
