A major Glasgow celebration of our national patron, St Andrew, will take place at 7 pm on Monday 30th November, the traditional feastday, in Calton Parkhead Church of Scotland, 122 Helenvale Street, Glasgow G31 4NA. (Location map)

Organised by Glasgow East Churches and supported by Glasgow Churches Together, the service will be introduced with piper outside and harpist within, then with a child from Quarrybrae School carrying in the book of readings, enthroning the book on the lectern  and leading those present in this prayer:

Father, here in this book are the hopes and dreams of the people of God.

All: Here in this book
May we also find
The hopes and dreams
of the people of Scotland.
Keep us true to your word,
Joyful in the praise of your name,
And ready to serve you in our neighbour.

After the welcome by Rev Alison Davidge the service will continue with readings, song and prayer, including a rendition by pupils of St Rose of Lima primary school of the Cantata ‘St Andrew’.  The Cantata can be heard at the St Mungo Music website.

A Blessing for St Andrew’s Day

God, our loving Father, St Andrew introduced Peter, the Greek visitors,
and the little boy with loaves & fishes, to your Son, Jesus Christ.
May we be like him in sharing friendship and hospitality,
and in faithfulness to Jesus and his Kingdom of justice, love & peace.
May our country be a  community in which everyone matters,
everyone has an honoured place, and the dignity of each
is assured by our faith in you as Father of all.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen

All are assured of a warm welcome to the service and to the hospitality afterwards.
