‘So God created mankind in his own image; in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.’ (Genesis 1:27)

William Wordsworth said that we emerge from the womb ‘trailing clouds of glory’. What modern life does is attempt to cover that glory with a sense of inferiority, convincing us that we can’t be complete without a bigger pay cheque, fancier clothes, the latest gadget.

But you are glorious. Nothing can add to or take away from your value, which has been infinite since before you were even born.

It’s okay to have things. Just know that the real life – deep joy and true meaning – is found elsewhere. People. Relationships. Compassion. Community. Food. Faith. Doubt. Love. Laughter. Sweat. Struggle. Tears. Triumph. This is what it means to be alive.

Dear Lord,
Help me to block out the messages that society sends me. Help me to hear your voice, the voice that declares I am made in your image. Help me to realise my true worth, and live each day in that reality.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
